I want to inform you that in Sujankhar village in Kukdur panchayat of Pandaria block of Kabirdham district in Chhattisgarh Baiga and Gond adivasis came down from hills in 2001 and have been farming since. This year they were cultivating rice in 60/70 acre. Forest department has bulldozed the standing crop and planted Eucalyptus. The planting is still going on against Forest Rights Act. Naresh Bunkar from Adivasi Jan Van adhikar Manch in Kabirdham district in Chhattisgarh says we went to a village called Kandavani which is a village of Baiga tribals up on the hills. This village is 80kms from district headquarter and 47 kms from block headquarter. 105 Baigas have told that they have got ration cards this year but had to pay Rs 200 for each card. When we confronted the official with this information he has promised to return the money within a week but this is an example how Baigas are getting exploited in the region which needs inspection and correction. Naresh Bunkar from Adivasi Jan Van adhikar Manch in Chhattisgarh is telling us about a village in Kawardha district where some officials have sent the report of NREGA social audit without even consulting the village elected headman. He says it is a tribal village and Sarpanch is a Baiga adivasi. Majority of villagers are also Baiga adivasi but the social audit was completed in the presence of deputy head, some officials and few villagers. Rest were not made aware of it.
