My name is Chitman Baria. My father’s name is Amar Singh Baria. My village is Barla in Ghanas panchayat in Turaikalla block of Bolangir district of Odisha. Last year an NREGA work came to our village and they built a road on my land. They asked to work on that road and said they will give wages. He says he had heard about corruption in NREGA in his village so he applied under RTI to get some details but he did not. Then he went for appeal but the higher official is still sitting on his application after months though legally he should decide on it in 45 days. He mentions the case of an adivasi Chitman Baria who gave his land for construction of road to Govt and also worked as labour for 45 days but he is yet to get paid his wages after a year. Bhan Sahu from Rajnandgaon district in Chhattisgarh says last month I had reported that in Rainitola village people have got no NREGA work in 2012 and last year only 20 laborers got work for 2 days. After listening to report Chief Secretary of state had called me to say that NREGA work of Rs 5 lakh is ongoing in the village. Bindeshwari Painkra from Surguja in Chhattisgarh is talking a farmer in Sitapur area on whose farm a well digging work had started under NREGA 3 years ago. The farmer bought bricks with his own expense which was taken away for some other Govt work. The labors who had worked are yet to be paid.
