After he filed his application the village head threatened him that his BPL and NREGA card will be cancelled. Today he was called 200 kms away at block after his appeal but the officer was not present. Other officer has promised to give the details in 45 days. Bhan Sahu is visiting Pandutola village in Rajnandgaon district in Chhattisarh today where she meets two laborers who tell her that 350 laborers from 3 villages worked under NREGA in November 2011 but are still waiting for payment of 4 weeks of work. She also talks to an official who tells her that the cheque has been sent to bank and she does not know why the bank is not disbursing the payments. Tejlal is speaking from Surguja district in Chhattisgarh and says in 2009 we 220 laborers worked in 4 kilometer long road construction under NREGA. The due is Rs 3,20,000 but when we go to officials they send us to post office which says no money has arrived. Some officials say the money has not come. Prithvipal Singh Tekam from Katni district in Madhya Pradesh is telling us about problems in his village. He says many adivasis were arrested for farming on an old dried up pond on forest land though all legal procedures have been followed by the panchayat. Though they have been released on bail but need to go to court.
