Coal mine to Jindal: 100+ injured in last hearing, Govt wants to do it again...
Rajesh Tripathi from Raigarh in Chhattisgarh is telling us that more than 100 were injured in last public hearing for Jindal coal mine in Tamnar in 2008. Govt is again trying for the same next month on 25th though CBI is investigating all coal block allocations and no Gram sabha permission has been taken for this hearing as per law and though locals have formed a company and want to mine themselves but Govt dont respect that. Most killed in Coal mine accident were displaced who got no compensation
Litu Minj from Sundargarh district of Odisha is telling us that as per media reports 11 people had died on 10th August in Mahanadi coalfield Ltd. But affected people tell death toll should be 35. They say all the affected families are displaced from the mine who are yet to get compensation and was earning livelihood by picking coal and that’s how they died. Coal mines took land but we did not get any money even after nationalisation
JM Rangeela from Bokaro in Jharkhand is telling that Central Coalfield Ltd is known as Chup Chap Looto company ( Loot slently) who has many coal mines in the district. He is talking to an adivasi farmer who tells him that coal companies took land of many farmers but even after nationalisation in 1972 they have not got their due compensation. Govt not giving land records to protesters of coal mining, alleges villagers...
Raju is visiting Karnapura area in border of Hazaribagh, Chatra and Latehar districts in Jharkhand where 32 coal companies are planning to set up mining and more than 200 villages will loose land. People tell him that they are getting a rate of Rs 10,000 per katha ( a local unit) and local administration is adopting fraudulent methods to deprive people protesting against coal mines from land records. Elephants harassing us, We need elephant corridor and not coal mining...
Sajal Kumar from Raigarh Chhattisgarh is telling about elephants harassing and forest dept not helping. He says elephants started coming to villages from 2003 and people are demanding elephant corridor since then but Govt is more interested in opening coal mines. 27 elephants have died since and govt has paid more than Rs 4 crore in compensation.
