According to the scheme some ponds were to be dug which farmers can use for irrigation, some embankments to be made to stop the water and also some self help groups were to be formed which will help villagers do some small scale business like poultry etc to make them self sufficient. He says his region today is known for hunger, drought and violence. Majority of people are dependent on farming for their livelihood and they need to migrate in summer for work to other states. He says I am quite confident that if we can stop this running away monsoon water in ponds by making bunds this place will definitely be not known for hunger in future. Raju Rana from Chatra district of Jharkhand is telling us about Birhor primitive tribals from his area. He says Birhors are hunter and gatherer but due to depleting forests they do not get much prey in forest and have started to live a settled life of farming and manual laborer from some time. They still go for collecting hunting 4/5 times a month but they mainly get some roots from forest. He says no one cares for them and he is telling a recent incident when a groupd of doctors came to help the Birhors they were also misbehaved by the powerful village leaders. The quality of food is so bad that recently children refused to eat. When a para teacher objected he was harassed. When Raju tried to take up the case he was also threatened. My name is Padaam Raju (village Krishan Sagar, Mushalamadugu G.P., Dhurgampadu Mandal, Khammam district, AP). We had migrated from Chatti village in Chinthuru Mandal (Khammam), 25-30 years back. We have recently got power supply and bore well. But we still do not have ration cards, patta for our lands. We have given petitions nearly 3-4 times to Project Officer, ITDA about our problems. But till now we have got no response from ITDA. We cast our votes too. We also gave Rs. 60,000/- for the purpose of getting land pattas, to V.R.O and M.R.O.
