Zila Panchayat members of Dantewada district in Chhattisgarh have alleged that in two blocks Chhindgarh and Sukma of the district 35,000 workers have not got any MGNREGA wages in last 6 months and the amount of due is more than Rs 2.5 crore. The members said this is a Naxal affected area and workers take a lot of risk for working but when they went to meet CO to complain about it, he refused to meet them. Sachdev Gupta from Mainpat block of Surguja district in Chhattisgarh says there was a NREGA work in his area which completed three months back but workers have not got any wages. They are running from pillar to post and are getting only empty assurances. He says there are other cases of non payment where people worked in NREGA and but are yet to be paid for over a year now. Rameshwar ji from a village in Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh says NREGA wages in his village are unpaid from last 4 months. More than 50 people have worked for more than 2 months and have not got any payment. He says the employment officer has not visited the village since last 4 month when the work started and no registration of the Job card number or the post office account number have taken place in the muster roll. Sanjay Sharma says Rural development secretary of Chhattisgarh has passed an order for timely disbursement of MGNREGA wages. The new order says all the workers must be paid after every 6 days. Districts will monitor it every two weeks and will send monthly progress report to capital. After this order some long pending wage distribution at village level has started.
