Govt removing people by force to give land to IIM Ranchi
Aloka Kujur is reporting live from outside Ranchi where adivasis are protesting against government effort to take away 227 acre of land for Indian Institute of Management. Govt had started procurement process for this land in 1965 but no construction started so many tribals were using the land for their livelihood and were also paying tax. Forest dept gives oral eviction orders to tribals in Gir forest
Ashok Shrimali from Gujarat says forest department has given oral eviction orders to 30 tribal families who lives inside the Gir National forest. At one side Govt is making special arrangements for tourists which create lots of problem for the wildlife but are evicting people living there for many years. NREGA laws need to be revised for rocky adivasi villages
Aloka from Ranchi says it is not possible to dig wells or ponds on rocky land because the Manrega scheme is limited to planting trees, soil shifting, and leveling activity.Cutting rock is not included in the scheme. An Oraon village leader in a village 30 kilometres off Ranchi explained to Aloka, that most Oraon villages are based on rocky land and so NREGA laws needs to be revised if it is to be effective for them.For more please contact Aloka at 09430194872
