Saroj Paraste is talking to a farmer Bishan bhai in village Kumarjhar in Jabalpur district of Madhya Pradesh who tell her that they opened a bank account for NREGA payments now 5 years ago but they are yet to get their passbooks. They have visited the bank in the city many times. This causes them loss of work but still they are yet to get the passbook. Sanjay Sharma says he had heard a report from Shivram Sonvani sometime back saying that NREGA wages of Rs 2,49,000 of 264 people from Surguja was unpaid and there was no action from the authorities. I did some follow up on it after collecting more details from Shivam but was shocked to discover yesterday on official NREGA website that the complaint on this subject by me is not clear and the concerned people can not be reached. Bindeshwari Lal Painkra from Kachnar Adivasi Vikas Samiti in Sitapur block in Surguja, Chhattisgarh says his organisation is studying NREGA from 2010 and they have not found even a single instance where payment was made in time in their block. He says people who have done no work have got payment for 100 days. In one village people have not been paid NREGA wages for 3 years now.
