More than 7 lakhs in wages due in NREGA from 5 months

Prakash Gupta is visiting village Kanaknagar in Pratappur block of Surajpur district in Chhattisgarh today. While talking to the Sarpanch he finds out that people worked under NREGA five months back in February 2012 but are yet to paid. The sarpanch tells him that more than Rs 7 lakh wages are due and the officials tell him that the funds have not arrived. We will give our lives but not the land, says an adivasi...

Prakash Gupta is in Salk village of Surguja district with Jan Chetna Yatra of Chhattisgarh Bachao Andolan where he helps us listen to Adivasi leader Jung Sai who says adivasis have been cheated by the administration who wants to take away all on which an adivasi is dependent. NREGA: Even RTI 2nd appeal unable to dig out corruption

Prakash Gupta from Surguja in Chhattisgarh says Right to Information is not able to help expose corruption in NREGA. He says he had heard about corruption in NREGA in his village so he applied under RTI to get some details but he did not. Then he went for appeal but the higher official is still sitting on his application after months though legally he should decide on it in 45 days. Village secretariat scheme running only on paper...

Prakash Gupta from Surguja in Chhattisgarh is telling us about Village Secretariate scheme which was launced on 26th January 2004. He says the idea was to solve villagers problems in thei villages and it was instructed that once in a week the village secretariate will listen to all the complaints of the villagers where representatives from all the Govt departments will be present. Need for audit of development money spent on Korwas
