Forest officer threatening to throw away from our land, please help
Hem Singh Markam is an adivasi from Sujankhar village in Pandaria block of Kawardha district of Chhattisgarh. He says I had reported few days back that a forest ranger is threatening us to throw us out of our village but I got no response. The ranger wants to do plantation on our land. The ranger’s number is 9981635708. He made us work for free promising land deeds.We have never got deeds for our land. Mr Gond is living on forest land from 1960 but no land deed yet!
Ashok Singh Paigam from Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh is telling us the story of Kohram Say Gond an adivasi who is living on a forest land from 1960s. He has paid fines to forest department all these years. According to Forest Rights Act he should be getting the land deed but not only the officials ill treat him whenever he requests for the same, the forest department has burnt his house quite a few times. Wont allow forest dept to take our forest away, says adivasi woman
Sukalo Devi an adivasi woman from Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh says forest department with Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) is harassing us and are not allowing to take wood which is our right. She says we women have cought forest department people at midnight when they were transporting wood. They should be punished. According to new law it is our forest and we will not allow forest dept or JICA to take it away. They are doing plantation which is also not good. AP Forest dept again burns houses of adivasis from Chhattisgarh
Dr SK Haneef from Khammam district on border of Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh is telling us that forest department has put fire to 20 houses of adivasis who came from Chhattisgarh 5 years ago due to political unrest in their state. These Internally displaced people ( IDPs) were living in reserve forest area in Andhra Pradesh. Forest officials have also taken away their belongings after razing their houses. Forest dept spent lakhs on plantation but there are no trees...
Laxman Kashyap from Darbha block in Jagdalpur district of Chhattisgarh says forest department has spent lakhs in plantation in 40 acre land near his village Kankapal but there is not a single plant there. There is no board giving details of the work. They have built a road and laborers were not paid proper wages. He alleges that similar irregualrities can be found in nearby villages too.
