Rajim Ketwas from Pithora in Chhattisgarh is telling us about their experience with Swara. She says we are using Swara from last 2 years and today I would like to share the positive results we have had so far. Many people in our area had not got their NREGA wages for months. After reporting on Swara they got the wages within a week. We also stopped some fraud in the scheme after reporting. In some villages there was corruption in Public Distribution system and people who did not pay bribes were not given subsidized ration for months. After villagers told their story on Swara, newspaper people helped us and people got BPL cards and ration within a week. Forest Rights act was not getting implemented properly in this area and when we spoke about it on Swara we got a call from Chief Secretary of the state the next day and higher forest oficials visited and we got our rights under FRA very soon. My name is Padaam Raju (village Krishan Sagar, Mushalamadugu G.P., Dhurgampadu Mandal, Khammam district, AP). We had migrated from Chatti village in Chinthuru Mandal (Khammam), 25-30 years back. We have recently got power supply and bore well. But we still do not have ration cards, patta for our lands. We have given petitions nearly 3-4 times to Project Officer, ITDA about our problems. But till now we have got no response from ITDA. We cast our votes too. We also gave Rs. 60,000/- for the purpose of getting land pattas, to V.R.O and M.R.O. Afzal Khan from Bhopalpatnam in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh says after the start of Salwa Judum in 2005 Maoists had broken Govt buildings and Govt had moved ration shops for subsidized food to Bhopalpatnam town and people from Sandra area are traveling 80 kms to get their food since. This way a 2 rs kg rice costs Rs 22 while it reaches the adivasi.
