Naresh Bunkar from Pandaria in Kabirdham district in Chhattisgarh says some time back he had reported on Swara that Baiga adivasis in his area had worked for road construction under NREGA in April 2013 but had not been paid. He says after reporting on Swara in Febrauary 2014 Govt has paid some people and rest has been deposited in bank which will be paid soon. Naresh Bunkar is telling us about proposed Tiger reserve corridor connecting Kanha, Bhoramdev and Achanakmar national parks. Adivasis of the area fear that this will displace thousands of Adivasis and traditional forest dwellers in hundreds of villages in the area. Naresh Bunkar says on 10th January I had reported on Swara from Charpani village of 80 Baiga adivasi families on the hills that there hand pumps were broken and they were going down 2 kms to fetch drinking water as officials were not listening to their requests. I am glad to share that next day after my report PHE department have repaired 2 hand pumps and have promised to repair other 2 in next 15 days. I thank all of you who made the calls. He says he has reported about it on Swara twice but there is no action. He alleges that the staff has also sold off the medicine meant for the hospital.
