Mithu Das is traveling with Forest Rights padyatra of Ekta Parishad and meets Baby Devi wife of Lal Sai of Khodripara of Salgawan village in Koria district of Chhattisgarh. She tells him that they are living on a forest land from generations and had also won a court case 45 years ago but this year forest dept has taken away their land and threatening with jail if they complain. Baiga adivasis are living here from 2001 and have applied for land deeds under Forest Rights Act. They have also got a favorable decision from High Court but yet to get the land deeds. Jagdish is visiting Dinanath Adivasi in Dhurkhuch forest village in Rewa district of MP who has single handedly developed forest in 1500 acres of forest land. He has also dug two wells with his wife Nanki bai but there is not enough water to grow his own crop. They need to bring water from a kilometer away for saplings in Prem Van, the forest they have developed. Jagdish is telling us about 73 adivasi families of forest village Guthwai in Jaba block of Rewa district in Madhya Pradesh. He says I recently visited there and people told us that they applied for forest rights act in 2009 but since have not heard from govt. They are living on this forest land for generations.
