Farmers getting different insurance rate in the same district

Bhan Sahu from Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh is reporting that farmers are getting different rates of insurance for their crop in the same district and they are very confused. They are also not sure if the government will give any bonus this year for the paddy it has procured. There are no clear answers available to these questions from the government officials which is making the farmers worried

Upcoming power plant wants to take over village common land

Bhan Sahu is reporting from a village in Rajnandgaon where work for a power plant is going on. The company has taken 300 acre of land but they now also want to take over a 20 acre common land of the village. Villagers use that land to make stone chips. Many families run their livelihood on that income. Company and state government is regularly harassing villagers and at the construction work also only few villagers have got any job

People migrating in search of work,still no NREGA payment

Bhan Sahu from Rajnandgaon says government officials claim that they have paid the wages for NREGA work which took place last year in May and June. But the villagers say they were paid half the wages in September and October. When asked the officers gives details about the amount spent on buying material for these work but they do not give details about how much wages were paid. People are migrating out in search of work. In some villages like Atra 40% people have gone out. Governmnet has now sanctioned NREGA works for the new year but payment for last year is yet to be made

NREGA : Wages not paid from May 2010 in Rajnandgaon

Bhan Sahu is reporting from Atra village in Rajnandgaon where she speaks to a farmer Bir Singh Malekar who says we worked in NREGA in the month of May June last year and we have not been paid yet. We also did a hunger strike but the officials gave us a false promise. Thanks to non payment many from my village have migrated. Another batch is migrating this week. This is not only the story of my village. It is the story of whole panchayat and entire district. He also says it is said that the wage is Rs 100 but we get less after various deduction. Bad situation of schools in tribal areas must change

As an example of bad situation of education in tribal villages Bhan Sahu gives details of a boys hostel where there is no electricity because there is no money for repair. The toilets are not working and water supply is also irregular. Children do not get their stipend regularly. She says this is not the story of this school or hostel only but this is the story of all the schools and hostel in tribal areas which needs to be changed
