Dam was built in 2005, affected farmers have got only assurances

Bhan Sahu today travels to Mogra village 9 kms from Ambagarh Chowki in Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh. She talks to a villager who tells her that a dam was built in the village in year 2005. Many farmers lost their land but they are yet to get their compensation. He says we went to officials many times. Last year we sat on a dharna and the officials promised we will get compensation by January. Recently we again went to the collector who sent us back giving more assurances. Women get together to stop liquor sale in village in Rajnandgaon

Bhan Sahu is telling story of a village near Ambagarh Chowki in Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh where there were 15 families who used to make liquor for their living. But village headman and some women got together and have forced those families to not make liquor. They say now children have also started drinking in the village and those families should find other occupation rather than selling liquor. She tells about two women in the village who are forced to live with their parents due to drinking habit of their husbands

5 years on : Mohla dam evictees still struglng for compensation

Bhan Sahu from Rajnandgaon in Chhattisgarh says it is 5 years since Mohla dam was built but evicted people are still running from pillar to post for their compensation. In November when they did a dharna officials have given them an assurance that all payments will be done before new year and dharna was withdrawn. A form of manual scavenging practiced by Ludhiana municipality

Bhan Sahu is speaking to Kishan Kumar from Ludhiana who says a form of manual scavenging is being used by Ludhiana municipality which uses people from Valmiki community to clean the sevages manually. 2 people have died in the process recently. This practice need to be challenged when manual scavenging is banned by the law
