Bad situation of NREGA work in Surguja, says activist

Villagers oppose mining work in Latehar, Jharkhand
Prakash Oraon from village Newari in Latehar district of Jharkhand says that people in his village are protesting against work of TCML ( A joint venture of Hindalco and Tata Power) from a week but the company is contuning their work. He alleges that for breaking the people’s resistance company is using brokers who are supplying liquor and other intoxicating stuff to people in the village. Farmers not getting subsidized fertilizer from co-opertaives

Officer promises on Swara:NREGA payments to be made in 3 days
Prakash Gupta in Ambikapur in Surguja district of Chhattisgarh got hold of Sub Divisional Magistrate, the highest official in a Division today. He asks him live on phone that people in Bilaspur Panchayat in his division have not been paid their NREGA wages from last 2 months. SDM replies that the payment will be done by 15th June. Authorities illegally demolish houses on village forest land

According to Forest Rights Act no action is allowed in forest land without permission from Central Ministry of forest. These people were living on the forest land for sometime and authorities accept that they have broken these houses under pressure from powerful people.
