Dhananjay Tikadar from Balimela block of Malkangiri district of Odisha says there is hydel power project operational in our area from last more than 20 years which produces huge amount of electricity for the state. But many villages in the block are yet to be electrified. The villages which have connection face a power cut of upto 15 hours a day. In Bhirkapada village of Mednipur Gram Panchayat in Kalahandi district 15 BPL families have been sent electricity bills though they have no electricity. Under the Kutir Jyoti scheme of the Orissa State Govt, electricity connections were to be provided to families below the poverty line (BPL).Although a year has passed by, the work has not been completed.
