Lost land to dam 40 years ago, Still no compensation!

Tandava Reservoir project came to Goligonda block, Vizag district in 1974. It submerged 14 villages, and their agricultural land was also acquired for the project. Till today the project affected people have not got any compensation or rehabilitation. These villages include tribal villages, dalit villages, and villages of other communities. Jogipeta, for instance, has not gotten any compensation or rehabilitation. Same is the case with Gajempalem, which is a dalit village. The villages of Pachetlapalem and Venkatapuram, which are tribal villages, have received little bit of compensation, but no rehabilitation. Totally about 600 people have got affected, and their original sustainable livelihoods have got completely destroyed. Since there is no compensation or rehabilitation so far, people have got dispersed to various areas. In all these 40 years, though they have been approaching Govt officials, and though there have been changes in the ruling party, no one has responded to their demands. Even in the recent days, when they approached Madal revenue division officials and also the Collector, no help has come their way. They appeal to us through CG Net Swara to help bring justice to these villagers. For more the caller can be reached at 09393492108
